What types of whitening are usually offered?
Most whitening procedures come in 2 different forms:
- In-Office Whitening – This procedure, called “chairside,” is done in office. It can be completed in just one visit. During an in-office whitening, an application of either a protective gel is applied to your gums, or a rubber shield is used to protect the oral soft tissues. A whitening agent is then put onto your teeth.
- Custom Whitening Trays - Custom take-home whitening products will come with a gel that is poured into your take-home tray or mouthguard. These trays are made to fit your teeth precisely. Usage of the gel will vary depending on the product prescribed. Some products are used twice a day for approximately 2 weeks, while others are intended only for overnight use for 1-2 weeks.
How long do the teeth whitening effects last?
Teeth whitening isn’t permanent. Usually, it can take anywhere from 6-9 months to perhaps over a year after the initial whitening. Patients who expose their teeth to foods and beverages known to cause staining might see the whiteness start to fade in as little as 1 month after treatment. Individuals who want to maintain their teeth white should take care of their teeth, eat healthy foods that don’t stain, and reduce or refrain from smoking. If your teeth are cared for in the best way possible, and you follow the recommended measures set forth by Dr. Kindred, you can get the most out of teeth whitening and maintain your gorgeous smile.
